What is the best way to keep my bike from being stolen?

The best way to protect your bicycle is:

“Have more security on your bike than the bike it's parked next to.”

Looking at many different locks that are available, most do the basic securing of a bike.

A lock can be as costly as you choose to make it, from a few dollars for a basic lock which does nothing to prevent theft, to over a hundred dollars for a really good lock.

The most popular product used to protect homes, cars and motor bikes is: An Alarm!

Most cars have them why not my bike?

While looking for a good lock I decided to look at alarms also.

A separate bike alarm will cost from $25.00 to well over a hundred dollars. An alarm is a great idea because this is something that makes a lot of noise and attracts a bunch of attention. The noise is an excellent deterrent, thieves do not want attention, just to grab the item and run.

I had purchased a lock and also a separate alarm to try and remedy the situation to help me keep my bike from being stolen. I now have two items to help secure my bike, the lock and the alarm.

So, what if the two were combined? A lock and an alarm together in one package would make a much better system!

I did even better I found the alarm and lock with a flexible cable. I can attach my bike to almost anything I can put the cable around.

My bike is now securely locked and if somebody moves it the alarm shrieks at 110 decibels and this creates even more attention to my bike.

A bike that will not move because of the lock and the alarm is making so much noise it becomes more hassle to steal it than it is worth.

An efficient package and so noisy when activated! The cable is approximately 2 ½ feet long and over ¾ inches thick, very flexible and weighs just over 2 pounds, easy to take with me on trips.

I feel better knowing I have done almost all I can do to protect my investment from being stolen while using just one product to do all I require. This versatile cable alarm lock can be used as a lock or an alarm-lock.

This cable alarm lock also serves to secure my ATV and lawn/garden shed which holds other valuable items I own.

I am finding many different uses for this alarm-lock, I not only lock my bike with it I also lock my car steering wheel and you do not want to be in enclosed spaces when the 110 decibel alarm goes off.

Have you seen my bike...Where did my bike go...it's gone...

Some SON OF A ...... Stole my bike.

I empathize with those who say these words. So how do you keep your bike from being stolen? I have talked with people who have had three bikes stolen; so far.

With more than 825 bikes stolen every day in North America you would think that we all would hire somebody to stand watch over our bikes while we went into the store or the coffee shop.

You’re going out to purchase the appropriate bike for yourself. You’ve spent time saving money and doing research to have information so you can get the proper fitting bike.

You have made your choice, everything fits, the price is acceptable, now to go down to the bike shop and purchase it. While there I have it adjusted for my height and make sure the brakes work properly.

Everything is great, WAIT, I have to have a helmet to protect my head should I do a head plant. Maybe I should get some knee, wrist and elbow pads also as I am more likely to scrape them then break open my head.

The nice fellow at the bike shop suggests I purchase a lock for my new bike, just in case. Not a bad idea, so I buy one, nothing special. I figure if somebody wants my new bike bad enough they will take it anyway, but this might at least slow them down a bit.

Everything in order off I go, out the door, down the street, riding like never before, the wind in my eyes, my scarf in the wind flowing out behind me (just kidding). I ride proudly around for quite a while and decide to stop at the neighborhood coffee spot.

Parking my new bicycle in the rack, I lock it with my new lock, go inside and get a coffee-to-go so I can sit outside and admire my new bicycle.

Now I must tell you it is a real pleasant feeling when you open the door from the coffee shop and your bicycle is still where you left it.

I know what it is like to come out from a store and not find your bicycle where you left it, walking home sucks when that happens. There are times that we all wish things would be different, especially when we have lost our possessions because somebody else wanted them without going through the purchase end of the system.

I do feel that if our possessions mean something to us we should have some sort of security attached to them to help us retain what we have purchased with our money.

Stop Thief… Bring Back My Bike!

Personally, I think that if a thief really wants your bike there is nothing that will stop them from taking it. The best thing to do is leave your bike at home. This does defeat the purpose of having a bike to ride. What is the best way to keep my bike from being stolen?

I have looked at many different locks that are available and most do the basic securing of a bike. A lock can be as costly as you wish to make it, from a few dollars for a basic lock, to over a hundred. While looking for locks I decided to look at alarms also, most cars have them why not my bike. A motion alarm will run from $25.00 to well over a hundred. This is a good idea because something that makes a lot of noise attracts a bunch of attention. Thieves do not want attention.  So the noise is an excellent deterrent.

So, what if the two were combined? It would make a much better system! Your bike is securely locked and if somebody moves it the alarm shrieks loudly and creates even more attention to your bike. Now you have a bike that will not move because of the lock and is making so much noise (from the alarm) it becomes more hassle than it is worth to steal it.

I had purchased a lock and a separate alarm to try and remedy the situation and help me keep my bike. Now I have to have two things to help secure my bike. I have since found one very reasonably priced cable alarm-lock combination. I received it the other day and started to experiment with it. I am very impressed that so much can be made into such an efficient package and noisy when activated.

I feel better knowing I have done almost all I can do to protect my investment from being stolen while using just one product to do all I require. This cable alarm-lock will also serve to lock up my lawn/garden shed which holds other valuable items I own. It is a versatile item; it can be just a lock or both an alarm-lock, glad to have one.
